Meet Lizzie, the Queen of Peoria Zoo!African lion Lizzy has been a beloved resident of Peoria Zoo for many years. At 19 years old and approaching 20, she’s also a wonderful example of the lifelong commitment we make to every animal in our care. Just like people, animals’ needs can change as they grow older. Our animal care and veterinary teams closely monitor Lizzy’s health, behavior, comfort, and overall wellbeing, providing individualized care that evolves along with her needs. From the everyday choices she makes to the care and attention she receives from the team that knows her best, Lizzy’s story offers a special look at what it means to care for an aging animal. We’re proud to provide her with exceptional care while giving guests the opportunity to connect with and learn about this incredible species.

Our animals are ambassadors for wildlife conservation. We will promote innovations in husbandry and acheive the highest standards of animal care.
